MCWC Action Alert – Opposing Nestle

ACTION ALERT

After four years of massive citizen opposition to an increase in the
Nestle water grab in Osceola County, the State through EGLE has
determined that we should be dismissed. Nestle gets its permit to
pump at 400 gallons per minute and we are informed we had no right
to contest this. We get the bills for a process which is now declared
null and void. Nestle gets a green light to continue plundering the
water of the commons for corporate profit while thousands of
households throughout Michigan still have no clean water.

There is no justice in this decision. The public trust responsibilities of
the State are ignored. A precedent is potentially established to deny
citizens participation in future decisions on water rights. A narrow
and erroneous interpretation of the Safe Drinking Water Act gives
Nestle control over our resources and gives our communities
nothing.

We must continue to oppose this behavior on the part of EGLE which
is still operating under the rules of the Snyder regime and the control
of a legal team from the Attorney General’s office that bends the law
to serve a corporation rather than the people and their constitution.

WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED
FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO CONTINUE OUR RESISTANCE
